Connelly Press Release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Dentists Climb for A Cause 1999
Post-Climb Communiqué

On September 3, Dr. Steven Connelly, D.M.D. of Kirkwood, MO, joined twenty-two other professionals in an attempt to summit Mt. Rainier, WA, notorious as the most glaciated peak and most difficult endurance climb in the lower 48 states.

For two days, the team endured high winds and white-out conditions during much of their climb. The effort proved too much for nearly one third of the climbers, all of whom had committed to an intense training regimen.

At 8:40 a.m. on Saturday, September 4, their effort culminated with Dr. Connelly and fourteen others standing triumphantly on the dormant volcano's crater.

"Standing at the top of Rainier was one of the most exhilarating experiences of my life" relates Connelly. "But what was truly remarkable was the camaraderie and sense of purpose shared by the entire team, regardless of how high they got on the mountain. That purpose was to create awareness and raise funds for a most worthwhile cause."

The cause is OperationSmile. Since 1982, OperationSmile, a private, not-for-profit volunteer medical services organization, has been providing dentistry, reconstructive surgery, and related health care to indigent children and young adults in developing countries and the United States. Together, they have provided life-changing surgery to over 15,000 children in twelve countries and over 20,000 children here in the US.

To date, the Group has raised over $65,000, and their goal is to raise $100,000 by year's end. To this end, no donation, regardless of amount, is considered too small.*

To pledge your support or for more information, please call Dr. Connelly's office at (314) 965-3837.

*All donations should be made out to Dentists Climb for a Cause. All proceeds go directly to the Dentists Climb for a Cause, Ltd. fundraiser for Operation Smile and were not used to fund any expenses related to Dr. Connelly's climb.
