On Friday, September 27th, 40 professionals and lay people from across the country met in New Mexico’s Taos Ski Valley to prepare for a one day ascent and descent of Wheeler Peak, that state’s highpoint.
The occasion marked Climb for a Cause’s sixteenth Annual Hiking Event. Participants were treated to incomparable vistas and a weekend jam-packed with Events ranging from shopping and dips in the hot tub to mountain biking, horseback riding and, of course the September 29th twelve mile round trip Summit Attempt.
As always, funds raised were earmarked to support the SmileTree™ funded oral health education and treatment projects.
“Despite high winds and chilly conditions all 40 participants reached the summit with big smiles.” reports Climb For A Cause and Smile Tree’s executive director Daniel A. ‘Danny’ Bobrow.
“Owing to a record number of participants, safety considerations and Park regulations determined that we would divide our Group into four Teams. Everyone succeeded in navigating the 12 mile loop and enjoyed a much deserved respite at the Bavarian Lodge, conveniently located at the trail’s terminus.” continues Bobrow.
At the Awards Banquet, Dr. Earl Bogrow and Bill McCormick were honored as, respectively, Rookie of The Year and Distinguished Alumus. Director Daniel Bobrow was also surprised to be honored with the Director of the Year award by his Event Management Team Virginia Norton and Emily Vagts.
With 40 participants and over $65,000 raised this is the most successful Climb For a Cause Event yet! Our sincere thanks go out to this year’s generous sponsors; Gunderson Dettmer, et al; Quality Dental Plan; Aseptico; and Heritage Dental Lab.
